PHOTOJOURNALIST AND ANTROPOLOGIST

Teun Voeten is an award winning war photographer and author based in New York and Brussels. Originally, he studied cultural anthropology and philosophy at Leiden University. Over the last 25 years, he covered conflicts world wide for publications such as Vanity Fair and Newsweek and organizations as the UNHCR and ICRC.

He made books on the underground homeless in New York, the war in Sierra Leone and the drug violence in Mexico. Voeten also organizes exhibitions, gives workshops and is a regular lecturer at prestigious academic institutions. He started making video documentaries as well. September 2018, he obtained his PhD degree with a dissertation on the Mexican Drug Violence.

DRUG VAN DE DUIVEL. DE WERELDWIJDE OPMARS VAN CRYSTAL METH

Finally. After nearly three years of research and writing, my crystal meth book came out September 2022. This is the Dutch edition but we are working on a translation. The book covers the worldwide advance of the destructive drug methamphetamine. It is based on fieldwork in Mexico, USA, Kabul, Prague, the Golden Triangle and Holland and Belgium, where lately many labs were discovered. The book ends with sharp rebuttal of the so called tolerant Dutch drug policy, which actually have transformed the country in a narco state lite. Read more

Here it is! The completely updated, edited and rewritten version of my PhD study, now available for a wide audience as a Small Wars Journal / El Centro book. With a foreword and afterword from Dr John P. Sullivan and Dr Robert J. Bunker, some of the most respected scholars on war studies, organized crime and terrorism. My books covers the dynamics of the drug war, the ultra-capitalist character of narco-trafficking and why extreme violence is not a freak incident, but part of human nature. Read more

After a short stint studying biology, Teun Voeten started to study Cultural Anthropology, minor philosophy, at Leiden University. September 2018, he will defend his PhD thesis on the Mexican Drug Violence at his Alma Mater.

Voeten anthropological background mirrors itself in his way of working, always looking for the human dimension in international global affairs.

On a regular base, Teun Voeten works as a consultant for companies, humanitarian organizations and government agencies.
