2003-2008
The last years, Sierra Leone is slowly recovering form years of civil war and unrest. The Kalangba Agricultural Secundary School has been functioning and steadily improving its standards. Still there is a long way to go. The campaign to raise funds for the Kalangba school will of course continue. Education is still the most effective way to prevent poverty and violence...
March 2002:
School Reopened! Teun went down to Sierra Leone and visited the Kalangba Agricultural Secondary School which had just reopened the beginning of this year. We were very happy to present the students of Kalangba hundreds of noteboox, pens, pencils etc. which were collected by the Valhalla Middle School in upstate New York.
We also want to thank the campaigning of the Belgium based community house 'Huize Karibu" we were able to donate a substantial amount of money for the school which will be used to buy more school supplies. Since the school was completely looted by rebels during the war, your help is needed more than ever.
February 2002:
Valhalla Middle School campaign in Upstate New York. Senior student Mila Gorokhovich has organized a drive to collect school materials among the students of the middle grade during last week of February. The material will be taken personally by Teun to Kalangba on his next trip in Sierra Leone. We expect at least hundreds of notebooks, pens, pencils, maps and atlases!
