Teun Voeten is an award winning war photographer and author based in New York and Brussels. Originally, he studied cultural anthropology and philosophy at Leiden University. Over the last 25 years, he covered conflicts world wide for publications such as Vanity Fair and Newsweek and organizations as the UNHCR and ICRC.

He made books on the underground homeless in New York, the war in Sierra Leone and the drug violence in Mexico. Voeten also organizes exhibitions, gives workshops and is a regular lecturer at prestigious academic institutions. Currently, he is writing a PhD dissertation on the Mexican Drug War. He started making video documentaries as well.

PhD thesis

After 5 years of hard work, I finished my PhD thesis. It is called ‘The Mexican Drug Violence Hybrid Warfare, Predatory Capitalism and the Logic of Cruelty’ and I will defend it September 20th 2018 at leiden University.

The defense is open to the public, it starts at 12.30 sharp at ‘Het Academiegebouw’, Rapenburg 73, Leiden, Netherlands.

We will publish shortly if I have managed to defend my work with succes against critical professors!

After a short stint studying biology, Teun Voeten started to study Cultural Anthropology, minor philosophy, at Leiden University. September 2018, he will defend his PhD thesis on the Mexican Drug Violence at his Alma Mater.
